Move-in day is exciting! You get to set up your room, meet your RA and your roommate, and explore your new home away from home. Here are our top recommendations to make this day a success for you and your family.
PARKING
When you arrive on campus, you will be guided to the unloading zone for your residence hall. Please bring a maximum of two vehicles through our active unloading zones, and do not leave your car unattended while you are unloading your belongings.
Once you have unloaded your vehicle, you can park your vehicle in any lot marked “N” or “C” without a permit August 14–23. “N” and “C” lots are close to residence halls, less busy, and easy to find.
CHECK-IN PROCESS
Once you arrive to campus at the time of your move-in appointment, you should first enter your residence hall hall to check in. A University Housing staff member will be at the front desk to take students through the check-in process. There will be posted instructions and signage to guide you, and University Housing staff will be available to answer any questions and point you in the direction of your new home!
Please make sure all immunizations paperwork has been submitted to the Student Health Center prior to arrival. Students without immunization paperwork will not be permitted to check in.
USE LUGGAGE CARTS
After you check in, you may start unloading your belongings using available moving carts and move the items into their room. There will be limited luggage carts and/or moving bins available during move-in, and you are encouraged to bring your own carts and bins.
LABEL YOUR BOXES
Label all boxes or bins with the student’s name and building prior to arriving on campus. This will help us locate the owner of any lost items that are brought to the front desk of the building.
CHECK THE WEATHER
Be sure to check the weather before you arrive on campus. You never know when you will need an umbrella!
PICK UP YOUR MAIL & PACKAGES
Each residence hall has a post office in the lobby of the building for students to receive their mail. Students are given their post office box combinations at check-in. Each resident’s post office box number corresponds with their room number.
If you are mailing belongings or other items for move-in, the residence halls will start accepting packages up to one week prior to your move-in appointment. You will be able to pick up any packages sent to the residence hall in the residence hall mailroom upon arrival.
After move-in, packages are delivered to a central locker location on campus. For information on package pickup, visit upm.utk.edu/lockers/.
