Vision

The Compass Living Learning Community will be a support resource that encourages and empowers students to become lifelong learners who consistently engage in decision-making processes while exercising open-mindedness, flexibility, and adaptability.

Mission

The mission of the Compass Living Learning Community is to provide support and encouragement to exploratory students as they begin to identify major paths and careers. Students are provided with the following support:

  • Exposure and regular contact with critical university resources including advising and career services
  • Sections of First-Year Studies 101 courses with curricula focused on major and career exploration
  • Programs throughout the full academic year which aid in major and career exploration processes, and personal and professional development
  • Laid-back and encouraging community environment
  • Individual monitoring of personal and academic progress

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the academic year, students will:

  1. Identify a major or at least two to three major paths of interest
  2. Speak with a representative from a department associates with their major paths of interests
  3. Know and utilize services provided by these campus and community resources:
    1. College of Arts and Sciences Advising Services
    2. Center for Career Development
    3. Resident Assistant for the Compass Living Learning Community
  4. Navigate the UTK website and undergraduate catalog to find information regarding:
    1. Other colleges
    2. College and departmental advising
    3. Academic Policies and Procedures
    4. Majors
    5. Minors
    6. College specific exploratory programs

Community Requirements

Students must be Arts and Sciences Exploratory or University Exploratory.
